Classes and Workshops

Schedule

Please contact Julia for the latest updates on class days at times.

Cost

4-Class Series $225 paid before the first class. Small class size with no more than 4 students.

The series cost is designed to offer a discounted rate for classes. It is also provided to help students commit to a more regular practice, to establish an awareness of positive changes in your body, which translates to longer lasting and continual core muscle release.  This is the key to living with less, or no pain.

Below are answers to some of the questions you might have before coming to class, but don’t hesitate to email me or call if you have others.

Note: If you have had an organ transplant you are not a candidate for Svaroopa® yoga.

If you have more questions feel free to contact me by e-mail omjuliaw@gmail.com or phone (206) 802-8582.

Please dress in loose fitting or stretchy clothes. Layers are always good. Please refrain from wearing perfumes and other heavy scents to class; many people have allergies and/or are sensitive to strong smells.
Feel free to bring a covered water bottle to class. Everything else you might need we have at the studio.

Svaroopa® Yoga classes usually begin and end with guided awareness in Shavasana, yoga’s relaxation pose. You will be laying down, comfortably supported by blankets and blocks.

We continue with Ujjayi pranayama, a yogic breathing practice.

The teacher will then guide you through a series of poses, or asanas. One of the primary principals in Svaroopa® Yoga is "support equals release". Thus we use alignment, support (such as blankets, chairs, straps and blocks), leverage and finesse to unlock whatever holds your body back.

“Anyone can do yoga” DOES apply to the practice of Svaroopa® Yoga. You do not have to be like the fit, slim, loose-limbed models that typically are in magazine articles about yoga. This is because the focus is not so much on being able to bend and twist your body to perform the asanas, but rather on creating lasting decompression of the tension in the core muscles of your spine, beginning at your tailbone and carrying it up. In Svaroopa®, props (such as blankets, chairs, straps and blocks) are used to compassionately support your body so the muscles can let go. Providing support allows your body to release and relax, it also allows anyone, regardless of age/ physical fitness/ flexibility, to do Svaroopa® Yoga.
